Review: Mine to Tarnish (Mine #0.5)

Mine to Tarnish - Janeal Falor

Katherine is sold by her father to another warlock. An old, horrid, smelly man who likes to punish and torment. Rather than staying with her new owner she chooses to run. Katherine must learn to survive on her own and not get caught!

After reading You are mine, book one in the series I was sooooooo excited to read Mine to Tarnish. Katherine was a great character and I was dying to know her story, and what a story it is. And the cover… I love it. I’ve always said I wouldn’t choose a book for its cover but now I know that’s so not true, I’d totally buy this book based on the cover alone.

Katherine is a strong woman, brave, thoughtful, compassionate and forgiving. The way she handles situations was admirable, even knowing if she was caught she could be punished or worse, killed she still had the bravery to run from her new owner Nigel. I found myself cheering her on many times, through the good and the bad.

Charles, oh Charles. He’s a tarnished that takes it upon himself to help Katherine escape and later run from her owner. He’s a kind man who does what he can to help those in need. He’s not your typical male character, he was awesome and I could see why Katherine liked him. Even knowing he could be killed or worse for helping her he still chose to because that’s just the person he is.

I’d have liked to see what happened next. How does Katherine end up as a seamstress? What happens with Charles? Arggghh… The more I read the more questions I had. I want me some answers ;)

Overall Mine to Tarnish was a great read. I was sucked in, one minute I was on chapter one the next it was over. I would definitely recommend this series to YA fantasy fans. I look forward to reading book 2, Mine to Spell when it comes out in May 2014!
